A Message from Dr. Richard Ulmer, Medical Director:

 

I would like to take a moment of your time to introduce you to Barrier Islands Free Medical Clinic, located on Johns Island. We believe our free primary care clinic may be of benefit to qualifying employees, as many small businesses are unable to offer health insurance at this time; or your part time employees may not qualify for the same benefits as your full time employees. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, we provide free health care to eligible adults between the ages of 18 and 65 who live or work on James, Johns and Wadmalaw Islands. The Clinic is operated by an Executive Medical Director and support staff and a large cadre of volunteer doctors, nurses and office staff.The Clinic is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. We are very interested in reaching out to the local business community asking your help in getting this information out to both employees and customers who might be eligible for our services. As a local employer, we understand how expensive it is to offer medical insurance to your employees. We understand the rising cost of basic health care and we are here to offer a good alternative for the men and women of these three islands who may find the cost of health care out of their reach.

The Clinic provides patients with primary care services and some specialty care along with assistance for prescription drugs. And, through the generosity of Roper Saint Francis Hospital, all laboratory work and imaging services are offered to our patients at no cost.  

As the Clinic’s medical director, I am proud to work with the clinic staff and volunteers providing outstanding medical care to our patients. We would like to ask you to please share this information with your employees as well as friends and family. You may also know customers who might be eligible for our services, and we hope you will pass the contact information along to them as well.
